Today's excellent Eduspaces news

June 18th, 2008 · 1 Comment · Eduspaces

Today we learnt that Eduspaces will continue to be Eduspaces (not Educator Central) and is not being taken over by TIG. No offense to TIG I hope but I must say I consider this to be very good news. I joined the TIG site and had a good look around. Good stuff and interesting but […]

Goodbye dear friends

February 27th, 2008 · 1 Comment · Eduspaces

Hopefully all my ‘friends’ here will transfer to the new TIG system. I am (I hope). For those of you not coming along I hope we can recontact via the blogosphere, twitter or whatever. In the meantime, it’s been a great experience. My first post here, or to any blog or social network, was on […]

The future of Elgg

February 12th, 2008 · No Comments · Eduspaces

Interesting posts from Ben Werdmuller and the News blog on Elgg.net: Elgg 1.0 FAQ Elgg will continue to be developed and maintained in something like its current all singing and dancing guise as Elgg Classic but version 1.0 will be a sort of bare bones social network engine with no user functionality except what the […]

Community 'ownership' a la TIG

December 20th, 2007 · No Comments · Eduspaces

http://ubershibs.tigblog.org/post/248681 Giving users ownership of the community is something that some organizations do well, and others… don’t do at all. http://www.mitpressjournals.org/doi/abs/10.1162/dmal.9780262524827.161 page 16  There are two things that determine the value of social networking tools: (1) the functionality of the tools themselves, and what they allow people to do, and (2) the people who are using […]

Communities or Forums?

October 10th, 2007 · 1 Comment · Eduspaces

The new version of Eduspaces looks great and the forthcoming developments sound really exciting. Some Forums and Forum view observations/queries: http://eduspaces.net/mod/forum/forum.php?weblog=impelgg displays the ‘Implementing Elgg in HE’ community blog in forum view. However the forum view seems to be the default for community blogs and there is no link to switch to blog view, i.e. http://eduspaces.net/impelgg/weblog/  […]

Reflections on ALT-C 2007

September 6th, 2007 · No Comments · Eduspaces

My intention to blog regularly at the conference didn’t really happen. This was the most exhausting conference I’ve been to, so much to see and not wanting to miss anything, so many people to talk to, so many social events. Something had to give and I’m afraid it was the blogging. As I said in […]

Tired, confused and emotional at ALT-C2007

September 5th, 2007 · 1 Comment · Eduspaces

I am sitting in my room totally knackered and badly in need of stimulants and a shower. Got to get up for the big dinner tonight and not fall to sleep in the consome. Another great keynote today – all teachers are rubbish when they start and get to be moderately good after about 20 […]

Blogging ALT-C 2007

September 4th, 2007 · No Comments · Eduspaces

It is 1.00am Wednesday morning and I have just got back to my room from the Wimba sponsored event at Jongleurs, the comedy club. Me and my 5 guests had a great time and the acts were great – tailored I suspect for the ‘corporate’ audience. There were some slightly uncomfortable moments when the compere […]
