Drills

This page will contain brief descriptions and links to a variety of practice drills for 2 or more players at different skill levels and intensities. Although they are predominately practice routines they can be used competitively to sharpen concentration and intensity (and make them more fun!). The drills are best for improvers and more advanced players. It is hoped over the next few weeks and months to build up a comprehensive collection of these. Where illustrative videos are available these will be used but it is likely they will be squash demonstrations. I’m hoping to be able to get racketball videos in due course.

Getting started. There will be a separate section on routines suitable for beginners to get them started. This is not available yet but coming soon as a priority.

Boast and drive 1 The classic routine (intermediate and advanced) Coming soon! There is a brief description of this in the next section below. This is a 2 player routine where a player at the back of the court boasts to the front wall and the player on the T hits straight lengths.

Boast and drive 2 with video demonstration by Nick Matthew (advanced). This develops the classic routine by introducing alternate drop shot feed and boast feeds.

Boast and drive 3 with video demonstration by Nick Matthew (advanced). This develops the preceding routine by allowing the feeder to chose when to do a drop shot or boast feed rather than just alternating them. Likewise the striker can now chose whether to drive straight or cross court, still looking for deep shots to the rear. This requires an additional level of vigilance, anticipation and foot work.

Boast and drive 4 this is similar to the boast and drive 2 routine in that it alternates boast feed with drops but the drops are now cross court and the two players are equally engaged. It is designed to encourage controlled movement along court diagonals.
