Tour De France: The History, the Legend, the Riders by Graeme Fife, Mainstream Publishing, Edinburgh, 2012. First published in 1999 and then revised every year to add a chapter on the latest Tour de France. Most recent edition September 2012 includes this year’s win by Bradley Wiggins.

Tour De France: The Illustrated Centenary History by Marguerite Lazell, Carlton Books, London, 2003. A coffee table book with excellent photographs. The Tours are grouped together in ‘Ages’ and there are several short essays on the chief protagonists.

The Official Tour De France 100th Race Anniversary Edition 2013 Quercus. Updated version of the book below up to and including Wiggin’s 2012 victory.

The Official Tour De France Centennial 1903 – 2003 by various authors in conjunction with L’Équipe (“France’s premier sports newspaper”), Wedenfield & Nicolson, 2003. Another coffee table book. It is quite detailed on every edition of Le Tour, with an introduction by Lance Armstrong

  1. I can recommend ‘One More Kilometre and We’re in the Showers’ by Tim Hilton, I’ll bring it along to the Saturday morning LCAG easy ride if you like.
    Also I have just got out of the library ‘Merckx: Half Man Half Bike’ by William Fotheringham and have asked them for ‘Rough Ride’ by Paul Kimmage which seems particularly topical again.

  2. Thanks Steven. The Tim Hilton book looks very interesting. I’ve just looked it up and it seems to cover much the same time as my cycling career, starting just a little before perhaps. Thanks for the offer of the loan. I’ve just ordered Bradley Wiggin’s autobiography that is coming out this month, Bradley Wiggins: My Time.
